Apr 27, 2018 Crushing blow takes a percentage of the target life, and smite always hits. So for Ubers, damage isn't a huge deal. It's about having crushing blow to reduce their life, and open wounds to counteract their regeneration. Prevent monster heal doesn't work on them. If you want more smite damage, upgrade the base shield. HoZ works fine.
Eth Upd Hoz Smite Dmg Build
HOZ vs. Up'd HOZ vs. ETH Exile
Saying that both the HOZ's get average defence rolls on them and the Exile is made into an elite shield with an average roll and ~30 resistance, which shield will suit a Zealot/Smiter (possibly 1pt. Smiter) the best.
With the 20% AR, 50 resistance and 20 vitality and strength it seems to be very well rounded for general purposes. Exile major points are the Defiance, Life Tap, and Freezes target. (I'm not taking Blocking into consideration as in the end we will have to put dexterity for max block as all Paladins need it).
Up'd Hoz seems nice as now smite damage is increased to 46-46 and there is a decent defence boost, but is the extra strength worth it?
Exile lacks resistance that Hoz gives, and one must use chams to increase resistance before even setting foot.
In the end If you could choose any shield which would you choose, these questions are haunting me!

Eth Upd Hoz Smite Dmg 2017
- For Diablo II: Lord of Destruction on the PC, a GameFAQs message board topic titled 'upped hoz'.
- The second bests (in terms of dmg) are jeweler's shield with 65ed 4sox, and rare shields 2sk 65ed 2sox (40ed jewels inside) then the magic 3pc 2sox shield, then alma negra, and then hoz. But keep in mind that if you want a good char, all of this is irrelevant.
- All Elite Paladin shileds have the same average damage Sacred Targe 22 to 70 (46 average) Sacred Rondache 35 to 58 (46.5 average) Kurast Shield 10 to 82 (46 average) Zakarum Shield 46 to 46 (46 average) Vortex Shield 5 to 87 (46 average) Vortex has the best defense, but the lowest blocking, the lowest min damage and highest strength requrement.
- Jul 19, 2011 dmg wise, since the shield smite damage doesnt change, wouldnt hoz provide more dmg since its +4skill to smite.
